Coco Goff (19) and Jessica Pegula (29+) are tied for first place in the doubles world rankings on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour.스포츠토토
They are doubles “best friends. Goff and Pegula have teamed up in 12 tournaments this year, winning two and finishing runner-up twice. They are the first WTA Tour doubles duo to be ranked No. 1 since Barbora Krajcikova and Kateryna Šiniakova (Czech Republic) in January 2019. Goff and Pegula, who became co-No. 1 after the conclusion of the U.S. Open on Nov. 11, ended Ciniakova’s 52-week streak at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Arina Sabalenka (Belarus) became the first woman to be ranked No. 1 in the world, topping Iga Cibionte (Poland). Sabalenka joins 29 other players who have been ranked No. 1 in singles since November 1975, when WTA Tour world rankings began to be compiled. This is the eighth time that the WTA Tour singles and doubles world rankings have changed hands on the same day.
Goff and Pegula are also at the top of their game in singles. Goff is ranked No. 3 in the world in singles and Pegula is No. 5. Of the top 10 singles players, only Goff and Pegula are also top 10 doubles players. Goff and Pegula have been so dominant in singles that there have been rumors all season that they will soon split up to focus on singles. However, they played doubles at the US Open and made it to the quarterfinals.
And they’ve said they’ll stay together. The primary goal is the 2024 Paris Olympics. Goff missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to COVID-19, and Pegula was knocked out in the doubles quarterfinals. Of course, Goff and Pegula, who are jointly ranked No. 1 in the world, are coming off their strongest doubles performance in Paris.
“I might play less doubles with Pegula, but that’s not going to happen until after Paris,” Goff said, emphasizing that “winning an Olympic gold medal is one of my biggest dreams.” “He said to me, ‘I really want to win next year’s Olympics,'” Pegula said, “so we’re going to keep going for it.”
