Women’s golf world No. 1 Koda out of LPGA for now with back pain
Women’s golf world number two Nelly Koda (USA) has withdrawn from the U.S. Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour’s Mizuho Classic, which begins next month on April 2.
“I have decided to follow the advice of my medical team to withdraw from the Mizuho Classic due to back pain,” Koda announced on social media on Thursday, adding, “I will be back at 100% to finish the season strong.”
After missing the cut at the Founders Cup, which concluded on June 15, Koda, who lost his world No. 1 ranking to winner Jin Young Ko on June 23, will not compete in the Bank of Hope Match Play starting on June 25, but will play in the Mizuho Classic.스포츠토토
She will return to action at the season’s third major, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, beginning June 23, marking her first absence from the field in over a month after missing the Founders Cup cut on June 13.
Koda previously withdrew from the first round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in August 2020 after injuring her back, and was sidelined until the U.S. Open in December.
Last year, she was diagnosed with a blood clot that kept her out of the field from March through June.
