WBC-heated Japanese Yoshida, first taste in ML demonstration game
Masataka Yoshida (Boston Red Sox), who showed off a hot bat at the 2023 World Baseball (WBC), got his first taste in a major league demonstration game.
On the 29th (Korean time), in the 2023 Major League Baseball exhibition match against the Atlanta Braves held at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, USA, Yoshida started as a left fielder, batting 4 times, and recorded 1 hit, 2 RBIs and 1 walk in 1 at-bat.
One hit was a home run.
In the bottom of the first inning, Yoshida drew a two-run arch, crossing the right-middle fence with a total hit as opponent starter Charlie Morton’s second pitch entered the middle from second out and third base.
It was the first home run Yoshida hit in a major league exhibition game, ahead of his big league debut.
Yoshida, who went through Japanese professional baseball, threw a challenge to the big leagues after the 2022 season by signing a contract with Boston for 5 years and 90 million dollars (approximately 116.7 billion won) through the posting system. 스포츠토토
Even ahead of his first season in the big leagues, he participated in the 2023 WBC held earlier this month as a member of the Japanese national team and attracted attention.
Yoshida further proved his skills through the WBC. He participated in 7 WBC games and led the Japanese national team to the championship with a batting average of 0.409, 2 homers and 13 RBIs.
After lifting the trophy, Yoshida concentrates on his new start in the major leagues with a relaxed mind.
Yoshida’s performance in demonstration games was 0.231 batting average, 1 home run and 2 RBIs in 6 games.
