Lynn started Game 3 of the Dodgers’ three-game home series against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 18 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, and pitched seven innings of four-hit ball with one walk and three strikeouts to help the Dodgers to a 1-0 victory and their 11th straight win.

Facing a Milwaukee lineup in first place in the National League Central, he got off to a quick start with a 13-pitch triple in the first inning. A leadoff single to left by Sal Prellick and a stolen base put runners in scoring position in the second inning, but he retired Andrew Monasterio and Victor Caratini in order, and in the third inning, Tyron Taylor singled to left to put runners on the corners, but he got Christian Yelich to fly out to end the threat.

With the score still 0-0, the sixth inning proved to be the biggest. Back-to-back singles to Taylor and Yelich put runners on first and third with no outs. The next batter, William Contreras, calmly fielded a grounder and threw home Taylor at third, then got Carlos Santana to fly out to center field and Prellick to pop out to shortstop.

Lynn used 10 pitches to get another triple play in the seventh before giving way to Caleb Ferguson in the eighth with the score tied at 0-0. He threw 87 pitches. Behind Lynn’s strong outing, the Dodgers got a game-tying solo homer from Austin Barnes in the eighth to snap Padgett’s 11-game winning streak.

The contending Dodgers agreed to a two-for-three trade with the White Sox on March 29, acquiring Lin and Joe Kelly and sending outfielder Tracy Thompson and right-handed pitching prospects Nick Nastrini and Jordan Ledger in return.

Lynn is a veteran starting pitcher who made his big league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and went on to play 13 seasons with the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and White Sox. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he compiled a career record of 129-93 with a 3.71 ERA in 330 major league games and was a two-time All-Star (2012, 2021).

However, this year, his 13th year in the majors, he has faltered, going 6-9 with a 6.47 ERA in 21 games, and has been labeled a fading ace. He started with a winless April and an 8.00 ERA, followed by a 5.97 ERA in May, a 6.28 ERA in June, and a 6.46 ERA in July. Naturally, when the Dodgers acquired Lynn in a trade, questions had to be asked. The general consensus was that he wasn’t up to the task of challenging for the big leagues.

Lin used the trade as a turning point in his career. After a seven-inning, three-run win over the Oakland Athletics in his Dodgers debut on Aug. 2, Ryu went on to win three straight starts against the San Diego Padres on Aug. 7 (six innings, one run) and the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 12 (five innings, one run, no decision). A pitcher with six wins in 21 games has won three in just three games. Although he didn’t get the win against Milwaukee on April 18, he did his part with a Quality Start Plus.

The Dodger’s record is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four starts.

According to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, Lin said after the game, “I just got lucky. I have great defenders behind me,” and “I enjoy pitching in front of the Dodger home crowd. Three of my first four games have been at Dodger Stadium. I enjoy pitching in this ballpark, and I definitely get more energy when I play at home,” he said of his rebound.
