Texas bats, strikes out on a false swing
Hyun-jin Ryu, 36, Toronto Blue Jays, faces a special pitcher in a crucial game with a trip to the Fall Classic on the line.
Toronto is in third place in the American League (AL) East as of Nov. 11. The gap between them and the first-place Baltimore Orioles is large, and they’re looking to make the postseason as a wild card. Texas, in third place in the AL West, is in a similar situation. In the AL, the top three teams in winning percentage out of 12 teams, excluding district winners, make the postseason as wild cards. Outside of the division winner, the Tampa Bay Rays have virtually locked up the No. 1 seed, leaving three teams – Toronto, Texas, and the Seattle Mariners – fighting for two tickets.
That’s where Toronto and Texas come in. They will play a four-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from April 12-15. Toronto has announced that Chris Bassett, Hyun-jin Ryu, Yusei Kikuchi, and Kevin Gausman will start Game 1. Ryu will start Game 2 at 8 a.m. on April 13.
Ryu has made a successful return from elbow surgery. In six games, he is 3-2 with a 2.65 ERA. He suffered his second loss of the season on July 7 against the Oakland Athletics, but he pitched five innings of two-run ball. His velocity isn’t what it used to be, but he’s still cooking hitters with a wide variety of pitches and exquisite command.
However, the Texas offense is no slouch. Texas is first in the league in team batting average (.266), first in runs scored (777), fifth in home runs (200), and first in on-base percentage (.454). The offense is loaded with sluggers, including Adolis Garcia (34 homers), Corey Seager (30 homers), and Marcus Semien (24 homers).스포츠토토
Texas has called up right-hander Max Scherzer, 39, to start Game 13 against Ryu. With 213 career wins, Scherzer is a three-time Cy Young Award winner. This will be the first time Ryu has faced Scherzer in a starting role.
Scherzer was acquired by Texas at the trade deadline this year. In seven appearances since then, he has gone 3-2 with a 3.63 ERA.
