The 2023 MLB CUP KOREA is a national little league baseball tournament hosted by MLB and organised by the Korea Little League Baseball Federation and was first held in 2019. It is the fourth edition of the tournament, with the exception of 2020, which was cancelled due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.메이저놀이터

At last year’s tournament, Incheon Seo-gu Little League won the U10 category and Bucheon City Little League won the U12 category.

This year’s tournament will kick off with an opening ceremony at Hwaseong Dream Park on 30 May at 5pm, followed by qualifying rounds until 8 June. The eight teams from each category that pass the qualifiers will compete in the main tournament from 5 to 9 October at the Kang Changhak Baseball Stadium on Jeju Island.

In addition, the U12 competition was added to the existing U10 from last year to encourage participation from youth teams of various ages. This year, 63 teams from across the country will compete in the U10 division and 105 teams in the U12 division.

Last year, MLB established the MLB Scholarship to help develop youth baseball in Korea. This year, MLB will again award 10 players with the second edition of the MLB Scholarship based on a variety of criteria, including sportsmanship, baseball skills, and coach recommendations. “Through the MLB Scholars programme, which is co-selected with the Korea Little League Baseball Federation, we will continue to support the development of aspiring Korean baseball players,” said MLB.

“We look forward to continuing to host youth baseball tournaments in Korea to help the next generation of Korean baseball players develop a love of the game through the unique experience of the MLB CUP,” said MLB International Senior Vice President Charlie Hill.

“We would like to thank MLB and Song Sun-jae for their active support of our federation year after year,” said Yoo Seung-an, President of the Korea Little League Baseball Federation. “This year, like last year, we have the largest number of teams participating and parents are showing a lot of interest in the MLB CUP. We are grateful for the opportunity to host the prestigious MLB CUP. We look forward to seeing more Korean Little League players make it to the MLB.”

In addition to the games, the MLB CUP will feature a variety of other programmes, including a home run derby event for players to participate in and an invitation to MLB players to give young players a great experience.

“MLB is making great efforts to lay the foundation for more young Korean players to pursue their dreams of becoming baseball players,” said Song, who has been preparing for the tournament. “We want them to feel the fun of baseball and develop their dreams more than their performance. In addition to holding tournaments, we are also planning programmes to introduce baseball to children who have not been exposed to the game due to difficult family circumstances.”
