Lee Seung-won, the trusted ‘dead-ball specialist’.

The South Korea U-20 football team advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 with a 3-2 victory over Ecuador in the round of 16 at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, on Tuesday (June 2).

Goals from Lee Young-joon and Bae Jun-ho in the first half and Choi Seok-hyun in the second helped South Korea overcome Ecuador. After conceding just two goals in the group stage, the three-goal victory sent them into the quarterfinals in style.스포츠토토

Every goal was a work of art. The first goal was a slickly executed pass from Bae Jun-ho, a volley after a chest trap from Lee Young-joon. The second goal was an individual effort by Bae Jun-ho, who completely broke down the Ecuadorian defense.

Choi Seok-hyun’s third goal came off a kick from Lee Seung-won. The tournament’s best ‘dead-ball specialist’ assisted Choi’s header with a precise corner kick in the third minute of the second half.

Before Choi’s goal, Lee Seung-won’s kick also stood out. After receiving a pass on a free kick, Lee sent a precise cross to Lee Young-joon. Lee’s header found Kim Ji-soo, but unfortunately, she couldn’t finish. This was followed by a corner kick from Lee Seung-won and a header from Choi Seok-hyun.

Lee Seung-won continued his stellar performance in the group stage into the round of 16. He scored the opening goal against France and assisted Lee Young-joon’s second header from a free kick. Against Honduras, his golden boots shone brightly as he sent in a corner kick to help Park Seung-ho equalize.

Lee now has one goal and three assists in the tournament. Not only is he a key force in South Korea’s midfield, but his goals and assists are proving to be incredibly influential. A treasure, to say the least.
