‘Klinsmann Ho selected’ Ahn Hyun-beom “I’m being tricked, please tell me to pick once…”
Jeju United’s ‘Anstar’ Ahn Hyun-beom (28) has been called up to the national team (A) for the first time in his career.
Jürgen Klinsmann, the head coach of the South Korean national football team, announced a 23-man squad for the domestic trials against Peru on 16 June and El Salvador on 20 June.
Jeju defender Ahn Hyun-beom was named in the squad. It is his first call-up. He was called up to the U-21 national team for the Toulon Cup in 2014 while still a student at Dongguk University, but hasn’t played for the Taeguk Mark since, including the A team.메이저놀이터
Ahn joined Jeju from Ulsan in the 2016 season and has since established himself as one of the league’s best flankers (27 goals and 17 assists in 221 K League appearances).
In his first year with Jeju, he won the Young Player Award at the 2016 Hyundai Oil Bank K League Classic Awards. In 2018, he was named the Best Eleven Midfielder at the KEB Hana Bank K League Grand Challenge, and in 2020, he was named the Best Eleven Defender at the Hana OneQ K League 2 Grand Awards. This season, he continued to perform well. He scored two goals and provided two assists in 15 league appearances.
Ahn is a master of the ‘chi dal’ style of play, reminiscent of Gareth Bale. He is a right wing-back with blistering speed and deadly runs through space, making him a force to be reckoned with across the park. He is also fondly known as “Anstar” among fans for his good looks and fiery fan service.
Ahn, who has longed for the taegeuk mark more than anyone else, told the Jeju club, “Recently, I said (to coach Klinsmann) that I wish someone would tell me that I was fooling myself and that I should try out for the national team, but it’s unbelievable to see it come true. I keep knocking on the door and it seems to open eventually,” he smiled.
“When I join the national team, I want to show what I can do well, and I think I was selected because I definitely have advantages over others. I want to show my abilities, which the Jeju fans liked and recognised,” he said.
