Gambia, in same group as South Korea, win second straight over France
The Gambia have made it two wins in a row after defeating France at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023.
The Gambia defeated France 2-1 in their second Group F match at the Mendoza Stadium in Argentina on 26 June.
The Gambia, who defeated Honduras 2-1 in the first leg, are top of the group with two points.
Meanwhile, France, who lost their first game 1-2 against South Korea, suffered their second straight defeat and slipped to the bottom of the group.

A short ball from France goalkeeper Jan Linard was intercepted by the Gambia in the middle of the field, and in a momentary counter-attack, Gambia’s Adama Boyang’s shot bounced off the French goalkeeper and a defender before finding the back of the net.
The Gambia had a chance to make it 2-0 12 minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty corner, but the French goalkeeper made the save.
Having survived the crisis, France equalised in the 16th minute of the second half when Wilson Odobe headed home from a free-kick.
However, the Gambia scored the final goal of the match in the 23rd minute when Mamin Sanyang broke into the penalty area and beat one defender with a right-footed shot.
The Gambia will face South Korea in their third group game at 6am on the 29th.
In other Group E action, England made it two wins in a row with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Uruguay to progress to the last 16.
If South Korea finish second in Group F, they will meet the runners-up from Group E in the round of 16.
