Cubs, batting line perfectly strengthened – but what about the bullpen?… Keep an eye on two left-handed pitchers
The Chicago Cubs had a busy offseason. They brought back Drew Smiley and succeeded in signing Jameson Tyyon, Tucker Banhart, Cody Bellinger, Eric Hosmer, Dansby Swanson, and Trey Mancini. However, the bullpen is still being evaluated as lacking.
Accordingly, the Cubs are keeping an eye on two reliever pitchers. ‘The Athletic’ reporter Sahadev Sharma said on the 16th (Korean time), “Left-handed pitchers Andrew Chaffin and Matt Moore are on the Cubs radar. The Cubs prefer a one-year contract and want a low-cost, high-efficiency contract.”
Currently, the Cubs’ bullpen has no left-handed pitcher other than Brandon Hughes. Accordingly, they recruited Anthony Kay, and signed Ryan Boruki, Eric Stout, and Roennis Elias to minor league contracts. However, there is still no left-hander Pil Seung-jo.
In the end, it seems that recruiting will be needed, and President Jed Heuer knew this. He said, “The bench members and the bullpen are still there. The goal for the rest of the offseason is to reinforce these two.” 바카라
Chaffin, who has been on the Cubs’ radar, is on the market as a free agent without exercising a $6.5 million player option for the 2023 season with the Detroit Tigers. He is a veteran bullpen with a career record of 14 wins, 20 losses, a 3.23 ERA, 123 holds, 11 saves and 422 strikeouts.
In particular, he has experience staying with the Cubs from the 2020 season to the 2021 season, so it is evaluated that there will be no problem adapting.
Another candidate, Moore, recorded a career record of 61 wins, 62 losses, 4.45 ERA, 18 holds, 5 saves and 952 strikeouts. He initially debuted on the major league stage as a starting pitcher, but since last season has turned to a full-time bullpen pitcher.
This was his best choice. He recorded 5 wins, 2 losses, 1.95 ERA, 14 holds, 5 saves, and 83 strikeouts for the Texas Rangers.
The Cubs are investing heavily right now, so there’s a chance they’ll own both players. If they join, they can be used as finishing resources. Rowan Wick, Brad Boxberger, Albert Alzorey, and Hughes are expected to form a winning group.
