August ERA 0, back to 385 SVs… Manager admits “I found my pace, report on 3 straight starts”
“Oh Seung-hwan came in the second half and found his pace.”
Samsung Lions manager Park Jin-man spoke about Oh Seung-hwan ahead of the team’s 12th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the LG Twins at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Saturday.
Oh Seung-hwan struggled in the first half of the season, going 2-3 with a 4.80 ERA in 26 games, 10 saves and two holds. It wasn’t easy, with a trip to the second team and a brief stint as the closer that no one expected.
That changed in the second half of the season. He went 1-0 with five saves in nine games in the second half with a 2.08 ERA. In August, he had an ERA of 0 in three games, and on the 4th and 5th against Daegu LG, he didn’t allow a single batter to reach base and secured the win. This is the first time this season that Oh has earned back-to-back saves.
Manager Park Jin-man said before the game, “Oh Seung-hwan found his pace in the second half. He’s doing his job as a closer. Our bullpen also did a good job. I felt comfortable watching the game.”
Oh hasn’t pitched three straight games this season, but he’ll be waiting in the bullpen for now. With a win today, Samsung could clinch the division, and tomorrow (July 7) is a Monday. There is no game. “We’ll see what happens,” Park said.
Oh Jae-il, who returned to the first team on April 4, hasn’t found his form at the plate. He has yet to report a hit. “We need to see how he feels a little more,” Park said.스포츠토토
