Mira Andreeva (Russia, World No. 143), the latest sensation in women’s tennis, has advanced to Roland Garros 2023 with three straight qualifying victories.

Andreeva defeated top-seeded Camila Osorio (Colombia, World No. 84) 7-6 (10-8) 6-4 in the qualifying final (third round) on Court 7 at Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, France, today (Aug. 25).

As the scoreline suggests, it was a hard-fought battle. However, Andreva’s concentration was much higher in the deciding games. This was especially true in the first set tiebreak. With the momentum in her favor, Andreva stepped up her game in the second set and pressured Osorio with more power. With a top serve speed of 179 km/h and an average first serve speed of 163 km/h in the second set, Andreva took control with a strong serve compared to Osorio’s 159 km/h and 125 km/h, respectively. She managed to break Osorio’s last service game to seal the victory.

It was Andreva’s third straight Roland Garros qualifying victory to advance to the main draw. She defeated Polina Kudermetova (Russia, World No. 142) 6-1 6-4 in the first round and Emiliana Arango (Colombia, World No. 205) 6-0 6-2 in the second round.

Andreva stunned the world by winning back-to-back ITF Tour events (W60 Chiasso, W60 Bellinzona) in Switzerland at the end of April. At the time, she was 15 years old, before her birthday, and it was the first time a 15-year-old player had ever won more than one ITF Tour W60 event. For her performance, Andreva was also named the ITF Player of the Month for April.

Andreva’s surge will be another highlight of Roland Garros this year. The main draw will be finalized after the qualifying rounds conclude on June 26 (local time).
